| I would like to add my support to BP. I always found him to be very friendly and approachable in an up-beat kind of way.

 | BP | |
| I agree - BP was a great teacher - actually made classes fun and interesting! Don't remember any 'corporal punishment' going on, but let's face it, there were some little shites around, and if they got a hard time back, well maybe they deserved it! Bullying? I don't think so!!! |

| | BP | |
| Who is this guy " Weaver " he looks like a real loser perhaps he deserved everything he got, why bring it up 20 or more years later. Does he think he's going to make money out of this. What an absolute Dick!!!As for Rodney Hide he just loves a cheap scandal! |

| | B P | |
| I have received media e-mails looking for dirt, I didn't have any!!!!! But someone made some out of something they probabily deserved. They're after the wrong bully teacher. Mike does the tennis ball fit the wife???? HA HA HA |

| | Winners on telly | |
| Hi Jan, the people I've seen on telly so far are Phillip Weaver, Aaron Tasker (Jawa) and Jonathon Whitty....Weaver and Jawa were saying BP was not nice to them, Whitty was sticking up for BP, saying he kept him in line and saved him from going down the wrong path. Don't know any of the others...never forgave Weaver for not handing back the cross country cup when he won it the year before i did....I think the torture I've had to endure over the years is far greater than theirs...I'm off to talk |

| | B-P a damn good teacher | |
| Good to see some comments from some of the other 3000(?) pupils who had BP giving THEIR opinions to counter the political smear campaign. I had BP in 74 or 75 and remember him as being a bit of a joker and friendly and approachable. One of the younger fun teachers. Sounds like his playful attempt to shut up some disruptive elements (who don't seem to have got over it ) has come back to haunt him. Must have been a split or punctured tennis ball. Or an EXTRA big mouth. What do those of you wh |

| | B-P a damn good teacher | |
| Darn, didn't know a space limit. Talking too much again. What do those of you who were there at that time remember about these poor shattered lads? One thing they don’t seem to have learned is that whenever you stand up to have a go at someone who has supporters, suddenly your own life comes under scrutiny. Are those skeletons I hear rattling? E-mail BP a message of support. (if you feel that way). it must be david.benson-pope@parliament.govt.nz |

| | BP | |
| I'm really pleased to see so much support out there! BP was a firm but fair teacher and all of this fiasco really gets my blood boiling. Maybe someone should do a bit of background research into Rodney Hyde, he's the one who sounds like a jerk. As for the guys who are accusing him, what on earth are they possibly gaining from this? Sweet F all, people just think they are idiots as well. Leave BP alone, and let him continue doing his good work. |

|
| | No way | |
| I can't beleive any of these stories that are going around. BP was always a firm but fair teacher. If you were going to disrupt his class, then you deserved to be punished in one form or another. Granted I am too young to have been around in the days of Corporal Punishment, but there were always plenty of detentions dished out to the worthy kids. He was such an asset on Outdoor Education trips as well! I think that the school was lucky to have him, and I consider myself lucky to have had hi |

 | BP's not bad | |
| The only things i'd say about BP is good on you for getting into government! I always said if we had exams based on the D.C.C and his twins, I would have had all A's is his classes!! I agree, if the press want a good story, chase up Mr V! Leave BP alone. |

| BP taught me German in 1975 and 1976 and I have always said in passing to people when talking about school days that BP was my favourite teacher - had the ability to relate to young people while teaching to a very high standard and keeping the classroom fun. Once I left school and whenever passing him in the street would always smile and say hello to me - no other teacher did that. A great teacher. |

| | Agree with Mike... "BEATINGS???" | |
| Yeh, Hey Steve at your age wouldn't corporal punishment have been long gone??? Or perhaps did they briefly introduce "beatings" instead? As Mike said you started this thread?.. I agree with him... fluffy handcuffs and all!!!! :) |

| | One of the best teachers I had | |
| I only spent 1 year at Bayfield, and had BP for German. He was great! The lessons were always fun, and he was fun. I don't know what the news was (I live abroad), but it doesn't sound good - therefore it cann't be true! |

| I never had BP as a teacher but knew of him and never heard any of this rubbish from my time at Bayfield. I also knew Whitty and Tasker and think they should be careful before opening up cans of worms about their past.i know students who probably deserved this type of punishment.get over the past, get on with life and enjoy the now Kia Kaha Bayfield High School |

| | The glory days | |
| I was there in the 80's and never heard anything about gaffer tape and tennis balls. Weaver only came to school to eat lunch. What a loser. Bayfield was a tough school back then - someone had to lay it down for the kids.An d now Sunday want to do an expose. Hmmm... |

 | It's a scam | |
| If you read the current Listener you'll see how this is a set-up (article by Russell Brown)It's pretty disgusting that the media will even manufacture dirt for their own purposes, even if it does ruin a really good guy's career and reputation. |
Maxine Hall 29/05/2005

| | Reporter started this thread | |
| The Listener article by Russell Brown tells us this thread was started by a Prime reporter not a Bayfield pupil as he pretends. So Steve, trying to beat up a story and too bad the cost to someone's career? Shame on you. |

| | BP threw me in a rubbish bin - I deserved it. | |
| BP was my teacher in 78-79ish and he has my full support. He threw me in the rubbish bin because I was being stupid. Some people would consider that scandalous now days but everyone in the class thought it was funny, I thought it was funny and completely harmless. He is one of the teachers I respected the most. I hate politicians and all the childish shit they bring up. It's them that need a smack in the nose and a tennis ball in the mouth. |
